About

InTandem Music Therapy is grounded in one central belief:
a meaningful relationship with music can shape how a young person understands themselves and engages with the world.

As music therapists, our work focuses on helping young people build a relationship with music that feels personal and sustainable. This can include songwriting and improvisation, but it can also include structured, adaptive instrument learning — developing real skills, experiencing mastery, and building confidence through progress that feels achievable and meaningful.

For many clients, music becomes more than an activity. It becomes a steady resource and companion.

How We Work

Music therapy at InTandem begins with listening to how a young person experiences the world, what draws their attention, and how they respond to music.

Our work is built on relationship. The therapeutic connection provides safety and continuity, giving each child a steady space to experiment, take risks, and discover what music can offer them. Over time, many clients begin to experience music not just as an activity, but as a companion — a source of expression, self-understanding, and connection that extends beyond therapy.

We also engage families when it supports the young person’s growth, helping caregivers understand and reinforce the skills, emotional awareness, and creative strategies their child is developing.

Who We Support

We work with children and teens with a wide range of experiences, abilities, and relationships to music.

Our practice includes youth navigating:
• Emotional regulation, stress, or mood challenges
• Neurodivergence, including autistic children and teens
• Learning differences
• Prior experiences where music lessons didn’t fit their needs
• Social-emotional development and self-expression

Families are welcome partners, receiving guidance and support to help children continue building confidence, skills, and connection beyond sessions.
